Arnaldo Trabucco: Effective Medical Teaching

During the course of his career in medicine, Arnaldo Trabucco has been invited to give lectures at many different events throughout the world. He believes that effective teaching is extremely important to the medical profession, as it allows for experienced practitioners to help newer generations provide the levels of care that patients expect.

Affecting Later Life

A good teacher doesn’t simply focus on conveying information in a way that they understand, but instead looks at how to ensure their knowledge can be digested by others. In doing so, they will often develop a more personal style to their teaching that allows them to have a much more pronounced impact on the direction a student takes. Students often remember their favorite teachers, which demonstrates a level of respect that also shows that the lessons they learned under that person stuck. As such, if you ever find yourself in a position where you have the opportunity to teach, take the occasion seriously and make a concerted effort to deliver your knowledge in a practical and enjoyable way.

Understand Your Subject

It is not enough to simply prepare a lesson and expect every student to fully understand what you are trying to convey. As such, you should never expect to simply walk into a lecture and deliver a slideshow without handling the questions that will naturally come with it. To do that, you must have an intimate understanding of the subject that you are teaching. This not only demonstrates that you are an expert in the field and thus should be trusted to deliver good information, but also helps your students by demonstrating the level of knowledge that can be achieved through dedication and hard work. Furthermore, if you don’t fully understand your own subject, you adversely affect the ability of pupils to learn what they need to know, which may directly affect the level of care that they provide to patients.

Deliver With Passion

Enthusiasm is infectious, so you should approach each lesson with passion regardless of how many times you may have delivered it. A monotone voice and dull approach to a subject simply encourages students to disregard what is being said. After all, if the lecturer finds the subject unappealing, what should motivate a student to learn more?

Arnaldo Trabucco delivers his lectures with passion and encourages discourse that will help everybody present to better understand the subject. He believes that this is key to ensuring that the purpose of the lesson is realized.
